Chiang Mai Cow Market “Kad Ngua”

Known as Kad Ngua by the locals (kad means market, and ngua means cow in the northen Thai dialect), Kad Tung Fah Bod is a marketplace at San Pha Tong District (south oh Hang Dong), about 25 kilometres from the city. For more than 60 years, it has been gradually expanding but retains major role as a livestock market (mainly dealing in water buffaloes and other cattle) for farmers from both Chiang Mai and Lamphun. Nowadays, a variety of goods ranging from antiques, to local food, ceramics, and clothes, as well as used bicycles and motorcycles are available here. You can get these goods at affordable prices and even, if you are killed enough, at barbain prices. This place is highly recommended for early birds who want to experience the atmosphere of a traditional rural livestock market on any Saturday morning (from around 4 to 11 am.)
